We Are All Called to Be Priest

Yesterday morning, I had the great honor of ordaining six women as High Priests in the Order of Melchizedek. In addition to having already completed the Authentic Freedom Mastery program, and for several, The Magdalene Priestess Training, these women committed themselves to eleven months of diligent study in the ancient, alchemical rituals and practices of the gnostic Christian tradition.  The intention and purpose of these studies is Union – union with the Divine, union within ourselves, union with all of humanity and union with all of creation.  The end result of these studies and the purpose of the ordination are to accept the call, and become empowered in the task of being a vessel of the Divine and being of service to the Divine intention of love.  In being a vessel of and servant to Divine love, we become agents for healing and transforming our world. This is the priesthood that we are all called to embody.

Each and every one of us is called to be priest – not in the sense of what we currently understand priesthood to mean. Instead, we are all called to be priest as Jesus was called to be priest:

In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.  HEB 5: 7-10

Jesus did what we are all called to do. In following his longing, he discovered God.  Jesus discovered an intimate relationship with that which he called “Abwoon,” – a relationship what he experienced as parental and which he felt as unconditional love.  Surrendering to the embrace of this love, Jesus found wholeness and was healed of what might have otherwise kept him from this wholeness (tempted in the desert for 40 days).  In being healed, Jesus discovered his original nature as One with God in love and within this love, discovered the call to go forth, sharing what he learned with others and healing people along the way.

Jesus did not provide this example and model so that we might place him on a pedestal, separate from us, and something to be worshipped. Instead, Jesus adhered to his calling and remained diligent in his task so that others might also be free.  It was in his Oneness with God where Jesus discovered his freedom – a freedom that allowed him to look beyond the outside perceived authorities to the Truth within and in knowing this Truth, accepting the fullness of his call – to be a vessel of Divine Love and being of service to this love so that world might be healed and transformed.

For those raised in the Christian tradition, Jesus was just the beginning. Salvation did not end when Jesus was raised from the dead.  Instead, the process of salvation continues.  Jesus provided the model and we are called to continue the work that he began those many years ago.  Whether we call Jesus our teacher or not, the invitation is the same.  We are all called to be priest:

  • Following our longing to the Divine within.
  • Discovering our Oneness with the Divine in love.
  • Allowing ourselves to be healed and transformed of the inner fears and unhealed wounds that might remain as obstacles to knowing and being the love that is our original nature.
  • Being a vessel of Divine Love.
  • Being of service to this Love so that the world might be healed and transformed.

How are you living out your own call to being priest?

The Temple of the Magdalene and Authentic Freedom Academy provide resources and tools in support of your own call to be priest, specifically through the Authentic Freedom Mastery and Magdalene Priestess training programs.

Stay tuned for the Order of Melchizedek training which will be live in 2018 (completion of the Magdalene Priestess Training is a pre-requisite for admission into this program).
