Truth reveals itself to us in an infinite number of ways. In my book, Authentic Freedom – Claiming a Life of Contentment and Joy (to be released this fall through St. Johann Press), I reveal some of the common ways that Divine truth speaks. The Divine reveals truth to us through our dreams, our intuition, our physical and spiritual sight, through our physical and spiritual hearing, through our imagination, in our daydreaming, through our relationships, through the circumstances and coincidences of our lives, in the ordinary and the extraordinary, through reading, cinema, nature, etc. etc. etc. The trick is learning how to discern the voice of God versus the voice of the ego or false-self.
The voice of the false-self/ego is the voice of fear. This voice speaks to us through worry, doubt, anxiousness and guilt. The voice of the ego speaks to us out of the false perception of separation from God and from one another. The ego speaks to us from a place of judgment and comparison, criticism and critique. The voice of the ego makes our self and our lives smaller, constricted, repressed and suppressed.
The voice of God, on the other hand, speaks to us of freedom. The voice of God leads us to a greater experience of expansiveness in our lives. When we heed the voice of God we experience deeper peace, a greater sense of compassion and love and bountiful joy. The voice of God leads us to our own unique giftedness and compells us to cultivate these gifts and share them in the world. The voice of God leads us to fulfillment and contentment.
This is not to say that heeding the voice of God is easy. In fact, it is most often the contrary. It is much easier to accept the status quo and what is known than to step into the often counter-cultural world of Divine truth. Divine truth shatters the illusion of our human constructs. Divine truth challenges the “shoulds”, “coulds” and woulds” of our tribal rules. Living Divine truth requires us to stand confidently in what has been revealed as truth for us, regardless of the sure judgment and discomfort of our families, friends and neighbors. Standing in Divine truth requires a strength and courage beyond what many are able to withstand.
There is the good news, however. In accepting the invitation to Divine truth…..we are NEVER alone. Standing in the energy of Divine truth provides the strength and courage that we need…..when we need it. It is the most amazing thing to behold when we allow ourselves to surrender to Divine timing and allow the truth that we desire to embrace to unfold on its own, in its own Divine timing. When we surrender to the Divine, trusting that there is a higher good that is seeking to be expressed through us, the truth unfolds gracefully and without the chaos that we would normally anticipate.
You may ask yourself, what truth are you being invited to listen to today?
